UNESCO's WORLD HERITAGE IWAMI SILVER MINE

This page shows the Iwami Silver Mine in western part of Japan which was designated as UNESCO's World Heritage site in 2007.

Start from below left of the map ②World Heritage Centre、where we study useful backgrounds(8 pictures below)
The mine was found and started in the latter half of 16th. century and at its peak time, it produced a third of the whole world silver production. It continued producing until the end of 19th. century.

   
   
   
   

 Leaving the Centre、go to Point B of the map and look at "Gohyaku Rakanji Temple"(Temple of 500 meditating buddist priests:above line&second line left)、then start walking form Ginzan Bridge(second line right)

   
   

 All turists must go on foot 2.3km between Point B and the final desitination Point C(the Ryugenji Pit), for normal car-traffics are prohibited.
